Capacitors

in an uninterruptible power supply (UPS) help to: Smooth, Filter, Store energy.

UPS systems have many capacitors in the power section and the printed circuit board level (PCB). There are two types of capacitors in a UPS:

  • AC capacitors: These are part of the output filters. They connect to the critical load output, control the waveform of the UPS output voltage, and provide reactive power.
  • DC capacitors: These are part of the rectification system.
  • UPS capacitors can last up to 10 years. However, it’s recommended to replace them between years 4 and 8 to reduce the risk of failure. Capacitors naturally age over time, degrading physically and chemically.
